Murder trial postponed

ROCKLAND — A mistrial was declared in the trial of an Auburn man accused of driving under the influence, and an attempted murder trial was postponed Tuesday at Knox County Superior Court.

David E. Keleher, 31, was charged with operating an automobile while under the influence of alcohol on May 6, 1989. The incident occurred on Tillson Avenue in Rockland. According to District Attorney William Anderson, the jury was unable to reach a verdict Tuesday morning and a mistrial was declared.

Keleher pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of driving to endanger. His license was suspended for 30 days, he was fined $400 and sentenced to 30 days in jail.

The trial of Raymond Packard, 36, of Washington, on charges of aggravated assault and attempted murder against his wife, Amanda Packard, in March 1989, was postponed after Packard failed to appear in court. Anderson said the trial was continued after Packard was located in Portland, where he was looking for a new lawyer.
