10 homeless in Lewiston after fire at apartments

LEWISTON – Investigators are seeking the cause of an early morning fire that drove 10 people from a three-story apartment building in Lewiston.

No one was critically injured in the fire Wednesday at the six-unit structure on Wood Street, but one woman who jumped from the top floor was treated for smoke inhalation and neck and back injuries.

Fire Lt. Wallace Veilleux said that while most of the damage was contained to the back half of the building, there was smoke and water damage throughout. He said it’s unclear when residents will be able to return to their apartments.
