Food for future group to present documentary

WATERVILLE – Food for Maine’s Future is sponsoring a documentary film about Indian environmental activist Vandana Shiva at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 7, and Sunday, April 8, at Railroad Square Cinema.

Shiva, who has been called “The Green Killer” by her opponents and who Time magazine described as a hero of our times and an icon for youngsters all over the world, is an environmental activist and nuclear physicist who was awarded the Right Livelihood Award in 1993. The film focuses on globalization and patenting, genetic engineering, biopiracy and indigenous knowledge.

The screenings will be introduced by Juliet Bennett, a Rockland filmmaker who studied at Shiva’s farm, Navdanya, earlier this year. She will share slides and a short preview of the documentary she is making about Navdanya.

After the film, Bennett will be joined by Logan Perkins, farmer outreach coordinator for Protect Maine Farmers/Food for Maine’s Future, and C.R. Lawn, founder of FedCo seeds, to answer questions from the audience.
