Knox County jury indicts Washington man in friend’s beating

ROCKLAND – A Washington man who allegedly beat a friend unconscious during a June party was indicted Thursday by the Knox County grand jury on two counts of aggravated assault.

Brent G. Pitcher, 25, is accused of beating Steven Condon, then 38, also of Washington, at a drinking party. Condon remained hospitalized at Maine Medical Center in Portland for months, but is no longer there, according to a hospital spokeswoman Thursday.

The grand jury deliberated for nearly four days before indicting 63 people on a total of 175 charges.

Among those indicted was Edward A. Hastings, 50, assistant principal and athletic director of Georges Valley High School in Thomaston. Hastings is accused of criminal threatening and terrorizing with a gun. He allegedly brandished a weapon Sept. 9 during a domestic dispute with his estranged wife and allegedly terrorized her and a man.

The other indictments involved a variety of crimes, from sex and drug offenses to burglary and theft.

Jason S. Simpson, 37, Rockland, 30 counts of gross sexual assault, involving a male victim and a female victim both under the age of 12.

Mont T. Daniello III, 35, Thomaston, trafficking in cocaine, conspiracy to commit trafficking in cocaine, three counts criminal forfeiture involving a 1992 GMC pickup truck, a Ruger .22-caliber pistol and a rifle.

Mildred Jeanie Harlow, 37, Thomaston, trafficking in cocaine, conspiracy to commit trafficking in cocaine, criminal forfeiture of a 1998 Ford Explorer.

Pedro Fonseca, 26, Lawrence, Mass., trafficking in cocaine, conspiracy to commit trafficking in cocaine.

Chad W. Salvas, 27, Rockland, theft of services, theft.

Matthew Miller, 20, Vinalhaven, burglary, theft.

Joshua A. Kelley, 23, Rockland, burglary, theft by unauthorized taking.

David M. Estes, 47, Rockland, assault. In a separate indictment, Estes was charged with robbery, assault, failure to sign a uniform summons and complaint, and violation of conditions of release.

Todd Preston, 18, Rockland, burglary, theft by unauthorized taking.

Robert A. Rein, 47, St. George, three counts gross sexual assault and two counts unlawful sexual contact, involving a female victim under age 12.

Benjamin A. Tripp, 18, Rockland, gross sexual assault, involving an adult female who was incapable of resisting and had not consented.

Christopher W. Chadwick, 25, no town provided, aggravated criminal mischief, reckless conduct.

Douglas F. Cronkite, 20, Washington, burglary, theft by unauthorized taking.

Jesse Harvey, 20, Warren, trafficking in cocaine, possession of cocaine, violation of conditions of release.

Tisaka A. Hall, 30, Washington, forgery, theft by deception, theft by unauthorized taking. In a separate indictment, Hall was charged with theft.

There were no secret indictments, which are kept sealed until the accused are arrested. Also, there were no no-bills, which are cases presented to the grand jury that do not result in indictments.
