Dream came true

I was very impressed by the picture and article on the front page of your July 10 edition. The headline should have read, “Small town girl makes good!”

Back in the ’70s I was a teller in the Piscataquis Savings Bank, which at a later date, merged with Bangor Savings. Roxanne Quimby and her then husband, George St. Clair, opened their savings account at my window. They had just moved to Maine, and even though they were just starting out and didn’t have a lot of material things, Roxanne always had a smile for everyone she met.

I am sure she never dreamed that the day would come when she would be able to purchase 8,513 acres of Maine land and have the $2,925,000 to pay for it.

Perhaps someday people will be able to visit Quimby State Park and know that it was someone’s dream come true.
